LEVEL: EASY
This short walk starts at Hunmanby Gap car park (closed during winter).
The one cafe is located here. There is no public transport to the start point with the nearest bus dropping off at the top of Sands Lane. However, when the tide is out, you can walk the full distance from Filey to Hunmanby Gap along the beach, which is highly recommended if you can manage the distance. It’s approximately 5 km one way.
The mapped route takes you along the cliff top to enjoy breath-taking views of Filey Bay.
If the tide is out, it is well worth making the descent to the unspoiled and quiet beach at Reighton. The descent is steep in places and can be very muddy. This is a favourite spot for fossil-hunting and, at low tide, you can walk as far as the white chalk cliffs at Speeton.
Ensure that you have at least 2 hours before high tide as there is a risk of being cut off here.
You can return via the same route along the cliffs or you can make the return journey via the beach, if the tide allows.
