While this is not a true circular route, the walk along the cliff tops is so spectacular that it’s well worth repeating. The walk starts from the small church car park in the little village of Speeton, where you will find an honesty box. Alternatively, you can get to the start of the walk by walking from Filey along the full length of the beach but ensure that you avoid 2 hours either side of high tide. Speeton is also on a bus route. At the start/end, you may wish to visit the church itself which is usually open for visitors. The route takes you through farmland out of the village and to the cliff tops. You have the option of heading down to the beach if the tide is out. It is a steep descent and is often very muddy. Sturdy footwear is a must. If you do the walk from Filey, just be aware that the path is not signed from the beach and can be tricky to find. You may opt for simply continuing along the cliff top and enjoying the views from above. The path is well defined, even though it is usually very quiet at all times of year. It does come close to the edge of the cliff in places and subsidence is common in the area. If you would like to cover more distance than this route offers, the cliff path continues to Flamborough Head and on to Bridlington. However, this map stops at Bempton RSPB nature reserve – an ideal destination for bird watchers and photographers. You will know when you have arrived as you will spot the viewing platforms. There is an entry fee for the nature reserve and the route takes you the visitors centre, where there is also a cafe. There are no other refreshments stops on this route, unless you choose to make the detour into Bempton village itself, where there is a pub and Richard Burton art gallery and cafe. Do check opening times to avoid disappointment.
