LEVEL: MODERATE
This route to the stunning Flamborough Head with its lighthouse, which offers tours https://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/lighthouse-visitor-centres/flamborough-lighthouse-visitor-centre ,and choice of places to eat and drink.
There are some gorgeous coastal views and you may wish to explore North and South Landing as well, if you have the energy to extend the ride by a few kilometers.
The route in and out takes you there via the Yorkshire Wolds and a number of small villages. There are plenty of iconic Wold farmland scenes to stop and enjoy as you go.
A stop at Bempton Cliffs and the RSPB nature reserve and visitors’ centre is well worth a short detour. We’d advise checking out their website for admission charges and opening times https://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/bempton-cliffs/.
There is also an art gallery and tea room at Bempton, The Richard Burton Gallery, which is also an excellent stop (again check opening times). http://www.rockvillefarmcottages.co.uk/tea-room.php
There are several steady climbs but it is relatively flat for the area.
The selected route consists of mainly minor country roads, many of which are virtually traffic-free even at busy times of the year. The B1229 and B1255 can get become busy at peak times of year but, apart from a short section in Bempton with sharp bends on narrow roads, the roads are generally straight and easy to ride.
On the return journey in peak season, if you wish to avoid higher levels of traffic on the B1229 and are happy to do a few more kilometres, you mish wish to follow the outward route on arrival back in Bempton, cutting out Speeton and Reighton.
